Student Doctors

The Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's (LUHFT) Clinical Sub-Dean’s/Undergraduate Departments are based in the Education Centre at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital and within the Clinical Sciences Building at Aintree Hospital. The Departments are staffed by teams which aim to provide medical students with the best possible clinical experience whilst on placement at the Trust on all our Hospital sites.

The Trust has very close links with the University of Liverpool and co-ordinates clinical placements and training programmes for, in excess of 600 medical students per year, from second year through to fifth year.  The opportunities here are immense and vary from traditional ward based and out-patient clinic teaching, to `hands-on’ clinical skills opportunities, intermediate life support training and tailored pharmacology teaching. Our students even get to experience organising their own clinical conference!

During their placement at LUHFT, students are exposed to considerable experience in both the medical and surgical specialties.  The rotations are varied and complex but each student receives a full induction to the Trust and regularly meets with an educational supervisor to review their progress.  Feedback sessions take place towards the end of rotations, both with students and clinicians, so that we can continually review and develop our programmes to ensure that we are delivering world class placements for our students.

The Departments are staffed from 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday - Friday and appointments with the Clinical Sub-deans are available upon request.

Coming Soon! Key Clinical Experiences

It is clearly not possible for all medical students to have a placement in every speciality. The KCE provides the opportunity for students to attend either in person or access online directorate KCE’s identified as relevant by the various specialties. Each KCE provides a list of learning outcomes and a short quiz to help you understand the KCE better.
