Practice Development Nurses (PDN)

The Practice Development Nurse (PDN) role was introduced in the Trust last September 2022 to help support and educate health care staff. The PDNs are tasked to provide extensive clinical advice and support to enhance the knowledge base and practical skills of newly qualified nurses, internationally recruited nurses, healthcare assistants, nursing associates and other learners in the wards.

The PDNs are members of the Corporate Nursing Team that support the development of clinical practice and take part in recruitment and retention initiatives. They ensure that appropriate, consistent, and realistic information is provided to staff and that clinical practice is in accordance with Trust policies and the NMC Code of practice.

The PDNs contribute to education programmes and professional development opportunities through delivery of formal and informal education and training for staff based on collaborative identification of learning needs.

For 2023, they will be leading on the Trust’s successful bid in the RePAIR project and will be organising the nurses’ and HCAs’ celebratory events.

The PDNs aim to empower staff to be active participants in their learning and development in pursuit of excellent clinical practice.
