Reducing Pre-registration Attrition and Improving Retention RePAIR

The RePAIR (Reducing Pre-registration Attrition and Improving Retention) project has enabled HEE to gain an in-depth understanding of the factors impacting on healthcare student attrition and the retention of the newly qualified workforce in the early stages of their careers. (Health Education England).

Covering the four fields of nursing (adult, child, learning disabilities and mental health), midwifery and therapeutic radiography, RePAIR explores effective interventions to improve retention across the student journey – from pre-enrolment to two-years post-qualification (Health Education England).

LUHFT have worked closely with Health Education England and their RePAIR fellows. In 2022 we were one of their case study sites. Concentrating on two projects to improve attrition and retention, 'The Golden ticket' and the 'Grow our Own Nurses Initiative'. The Trust shared information across the Northwest region with HEE, Other Trusts, and Universities. We have a further project planned for 2023 which will investigate supporting, retaining, and recruiting health care students.
